TEMPLES & TEA

After a relaxing and absorbing painting week at Moonhill, Tangalle, we explore the cool green hills where the finest Ceylon tea grows, spending two nights in Nuwara Eliya, with its colonial-style houses, Golf Course, Race Course and visiting the beautiful Hakgala Botanical Gardens with its rushing streams, ferns and orchid houses. We move on to Kandy, perhaps the prettiest of all Sri Lanka’s cities, and pay a visit to the

Temple of the Tooth where the Buddha’s tooth lies enshrined as one of the island’s most venerated objects.A specialised trek to see rare endemic orchids growing in their natural habitat can be arranged on request. Whilst in the ‘cultural triangle’ we will visit the famous rock fortress and pleasure gardens of Sigiriya, as well as the ancient city of Polonnaruwa and the Dambulla Cave Temple, with a stop en route at the heart-tugging Pinawella Elephant Orphanage before heading back to the bustling beach resort town of Negombo.
